Originally designed in 2014, Brain Series was based on the MRI scans of my father's brain.

When developing this series of work, I was mesmerised by the evolving form of the brain as each scan is viewed in quick succession. I use a technique of manipulating colour that is reminiscent of the actions used in my drawings, as well as creating folds and undulations, much like those of the brain itself.

In this series of work, I believe it is important to leave a lot of the decisions to the subconscious, therefore the processes I use during the molten stage are impulsive and spontaneous. The final form dictates where I create facets on the piece and it is at that point where the true beauty of the optics of glass are revealed. Finished with a high shine, these unique sculptures have such a tactile quality, they become impossible to resist.
